The Fifth Day: When the Seas Came Alive

The Fifth Day: When the Seas Came Alive

In just four days, God painted the heavens and the earth, and by the fifth day, He decided to make the waters dance with life. Imagine the silence of the deep ocean suddenly breaking with the rush of fins, tails, and creatures so magnificent our human minds can barely grasp it. One moment, the seas were empty, vast, and still—and then, at His single command, they exploded with movement. Fish of every color darted through the waters, schools moved as one body, and mighty whales broke the surface with their grand songs. If that’s not breathtaking, I don’t know what is.

But here’s the part that gets me—I’ve always wondered what the Bible meant when it said God created “great sea monsters.” Monsters? What kind of divine surprise is that? Were they giant whales, fearsome sea serpents, or perhaps something beyond our wildest imagination—like mermaids or creatures the human eye was never meant to see? The word “monsters” makes me giggle a little, because it sounds like God was saying, “Oh, and let’s throw in something a little mysterious, just to keep you guessing.” And here we are, thousands of years later, still scratching our heads and dreaming about what swam in those first waters.

Yet behind the mystery, one thing is gloriously clear: our Father in heaven is majestic beyond words. He spoke—and the seas obeyed. He told the waters to stay in their place, to rise and fall in rhythm, and even today, they still bow to His holy command. The waves crash and retreat, tides come and go, but never once have they stopped moving. It’s as if the oceans themselves are still worshipping the Creator, clapping their waves in endless applause.

When I think about it, I get goosebumps. With just His voice, He filled the emptiness with beauty, color, and life. No brainstorming sessions, no trial and error, no science experiments—just the pure power of God’s Word, and creation came alive. Dreamy, magical, majestic. And the best part? This same God who told the seas to move is the One who holds your life steady too. If He can command the oceans, trust me—He can handle your storms.

So the next time you stand by the shore and hear the waves, don’t just see water. See the fingerprints of a God who never stopped creating, never stopped commanding, and never stopped being God. The seas still sing His name, and maybe—just maybe—those great sea “monsters” are still out there, reminding us that with God, there’s always more wonder than our eyes can see.
