Why Fear When God Is Here?

Why Fear When God Is Here?

By Khanyisa Manganyi💛

Fear comes to all of us. Whether it’s sudden or slow, loud or quiet, it finds a way to creep in. It doesn’t matter how strong you are or how long you've walked with God—life has a way of shaking even the most unshakable. And that's okay. Because yes, we’re human.

But after those moments, when the panic softens and the tears dry, something inside us stirs—a holy reminder that we’re not walking this life alone. We remember the truth buried in the pages of God’s Word: “The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4). What a powerful promise.

There’s something incredibly comforting about the way the Bible speaks to fear. In fact, it doesn’t just acknowledge it—it speaks directly to it. Over 365 times, God says some variation of “Do not be afraid.” That’s one for every single day of the year. As if God knew that daily life would give us daily reasons to worry—but He also gives us daily assurance. With every sunrise comes a new whisper from heaven: “Fear not. I am with you.”

And it’s not a casual suggestion either. It’s a divine command. Not because God expects us to be fearless superheroes, but because He knows who He is. He knows that when we shift our eyes off the storm and onto Him, something miraculous happens. Peace walks in. Courage grows. Faith rises.

Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” This isn’t just poetry—it’s a promise. The Creator of heaven and earth is not just over us, but with us, beside us, and within us.

We all have nights when sleep doesn’t come, when the future feels unclear, when fear tightens its grip. But even in those moments, God hasn’t moved. He hasn’t blinked or turned away. He is right there, guarding you even when you feel most vulnerable. Deuteronomy 31:6 reassures us: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

There is never a second of your life when God is not present. Not one breath, not one blink, not one quiet cry in the dark that goes unnoticed. He sees you. He knows the full weight of your worries. He walks the road with you, even when the path is foggy.

So, let me ask you this—if the all-powerful, all-knowing, deeply loving God is with you… why fear? Why give fear power when the One who calmed the storm is still speaking peace over your life? Why let fear be louder than your faith?

2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us of our true inheritance: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Fear doesn’t come from Him. Power does. Love does. A sound mind—that quiet confidence in chaos—that’s what comes from our Heavenly Father.

There’s no shame in feeling fear. But we don’t have to stay in fear. We’re not stuck. We’re not abandoned. We’re not outnumbered. We are covered, carried, and continually cared for.

If today you feel shaken, breathe in this truth: God is here. Not just on Sundays. Not just when you're “doing good.” He’s here when you’re scared. He’s here when you’re unsure. He’s here when you’re just barely holding it together. And He is not going anywhere.

Joshua 1:9 brings it home perfectly: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

So next time fear comes knocking, don’t answer with panic—answer with the promises of God. Say it out loud if you need to: “Why fear, when God is here?”

💬 What about you—have you ever faced something scary and seen God’s peace pull you through?
