Peace That Makes No Sense

Peace That Makes No Sense

When Peace Shouldn't Be There, But Is

Have you ever found yourself feeling calm in the middle of chaos—like a strange, quiet strength settled into your heart even when nothing around you changed? That’s the kind of peace I’m talking about. The kind that makes no sense.

The Bible describes it perfectly:
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, ESV)

This isn’t ordinary peace. It’s supernatural. It shows up in places where there should be panic. It stays when logic says it shouldn’t. And if you’ve experienced it, you know exactly what I mean.

A Moment I’ll Never Forget

I remember a conversation I had with a friend that made this truth come alive for me. She told me how her mother was going through a difficult time and simply prayed for peace. Nothing dramatic. Just a quiet, genuine prayer.

She said, “After my mom said ‘Amen’ and stood up, she looked way too calm. It honestly didn’t make sense. But the peace on her face was undeniable.”

And in that moment, something stirred in me. I thought, God loves us all the same.
He’s not picking favorites.
And then another Scripture came to mind:
“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20, NKJV)

If peace was available for her mom, then it was available for me too.

So right there, I got on my knees and prayed—not with fancy words, but with a sincere heart: “Lord, I need that peace too.” What happened next I can only describe as holy. The peace I felt didn’t seem real at first. It was too calm. Too strong. Too still. But it was God.

God is faithful.

Peace in the Middle, Not the End

This kind of peace doesn’t always come when the problem is solved—it often comes before that. Right in the middle of the unknown, the grief, the fear, the mess.

Jesus said it Himself:
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27, NIV)

Notice He said that before He went to the cross. He didn’t promise a life free of hardship—He promised His peace in the hardship.

What If You Need That Peace Right Now?

Maybe you’re reading this while going through a storm of your own. Life feels upside down. You’re carrying things that are way too heavy. You might feel like peace is something that only “really spiritual people” get to feel.

But let me tell you—peace is for you, too. You don’t need to have it all together to receive it. In fact, peace is often clearest when we’re falling apart.

Try this:
Just stop for a minute. Take a deep breath. Say something simple like, “Lord, I need Your peace. I can’t do this alone.” That’s it. You don’t need a perfect prayer—just an open heart.
