God’s Timing vs. Our Timeline: Why the Wait is Worth It

God’s Timing vs. Our Timeline:

Why the Wait is Worth It

We’ve all heard it. That classic, comforting line: “God’s time is the best.” I used to say it too. It rolled off my tongue so easily—especially when things were going great. But let me be honest with you: when I was right in the middle of a storm that felt like it had set up camp in my life and brought extra luggage for a long stay, those words started to sound like noise.

You know that feeling, right? When you’re praying, fasting, crying, quoting all the right Bible verses—and still, nothing. You look around, and everyone else seems to be getting their breakthroughs with express delivery, while you’re stuck with divine snail mail.

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” —Psalm 27:14 (ESV)

I remember telling God, “Hello? Did You forget me?” It felt like heaven was silent, like every bit of me was being tested, and the wait had gone from “learning patience” to “this must be a divine joke.” I even thought, “Lord, You must be teaching me something…but could You maybe teach it a little faster?”

But here’s the twist. The moment God answered—just like that—it all made sense. The weight lifted. The confusion cleared. It felt like the storm never even happened. Suddenly, I understood why it had to be like that. Why I had to wait. And I realized: His timing really is the best.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” —Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

The Problem With Our Timeline

Let’s face it—we are people of now. We want results instantly. Microwave meals. One-day delivery. Answers to prayers in ten minutes or less. We have calendars, five-year plans, and backup plans. So when God decides to take His sweet, sovereign time, it clashes with everything inside us.

But here’s the thing: our timeline is based on limited information. We make plans based on what we know now. God, on the other hand, sees the end from the beginning. He’s not delayed—He’s strategic.

“This vision is for a future time... If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.” —Habakkuk 2:3 (NLT)

Sometimes, the delay isn’t a denial. It’s divine protection.

That job you wanted so badly? Turns out it was toxic.
That relationship you cried over? God saw the heartbreak ahead.
That breakthrough you thought you were ready for? God was making sure you had the character to handle it when it came.

The Waiting Room of Heaven

If you’ve ever been in a hospital waiting room, you know how frustrating it is. You don’t know how long you’ll be there, what’s going on behind the scenes, or when your name will be called. But in the end, the doctor sees you when it’s your turn.

The waiting room of heaven is no different. While we’re pacing, God is preparing. While we’re doubting, God is doing. He’s aligning people, shifting circumstances, and working on us. Because let’s be honest—some of the things we’re waiting for would crush us if they came too soon.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” —Romans 8:28 (NIV)

The wait is not wasted. It’s where faith is built. It’s where character is forged. It’s where intimacy with God deepens. You learn to trust Him not just for what He gives, but for who He is.

Finding Joy in the Meantime

Now, I’m not going to act like waiting is easy. It’s not. It’s like being told there’s a birthday cake but you’re not allowed to eat it yet. You can smell it, see others enjoying theirs, but yours is still in the oven.

But here’s a bit of humor and hope: sometimes, while we’re sulking and sighing, God is chuckling—lovingly of course—because He knows what’s coming. He sees the day when you’ll say, “Ohhhh… that’s why it took so long.”

And when that day comes, you’ll realize what I did: It was all worth it.

“At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.” —Isaiah 60:22 (NLT)

When He Finally Answers

When the breakthrough finally comes, it doesn’t just bless you—it teaches you. It matures you. It humbles you. You stop comparing. You start trusting more. And strangely enough, you even start encouraging others with the same line that once annoyed you: “God’s time is the best.”

Because now, it’s not just something you say. It’s something you know.

“I always heard people saying God's time is the best and I said it too, but when I was in the middle of that storm which seemed like it had been there forever and was taking every bit of me, sometimes it felt like God forgot me. Immediately the Lord answers, it all melts away and I even understood why it was like that.”

That right there is the heart of this whole journey.

Final Thoughts

So, if you’re in the waiting season—hang in there. Don’t quit. Don’t let the silence fool you. God is not ignoring you; He’s orchestrating something far better than what you’re trying to rush into.

And remember, sometimes the blessing isn’t just in the answered prayer. It’s in the wait—where you learn to walk with God, not just chase what He can do.

Now over to you:
